Renovation of our First Oven

Harness the heat to deliver fantastic flavour.

Old Faithful 03

Renovation of our First Oven

Old Faithful was our first oven. Over the past 8 years she has gone through every test an oven of this type can go through. The oven has passed with flying colours, with induced temperatures exceeding 900C, the oven withstood them easily, although it did highlight the fact we had to import quality temperature gauges from America, as we melted all gauges available locally.

old-faithful-01This oven has been used regularly over this period, as the owner has a passion for entertaining, their neighbours have tried on many occasions to get them to provide delivery Pizza’s to the locals in the street. I remember on one particular evening, Mahi Mahi was cooked whole, freshly caught  on the day, one particular gentleman insisted that he hated fish, and although it looked magnificent he was going to pass, the man’s wife was enjoying the fish and was pushing him to have just a little piece, he forced himself,  we then stood back as this guy took the Mahi Mahi apart within a few minutes, we had to laugh and joke, and of course gave him a little bit of stick over his previous comments, but another beautiful evening was had by all.

The other week I decided that these lovely people who had gone through all the requirements to test our ovens should have some sort of gift, so we decided to rejuvenated their oven for them, we use black mosaic tiles, for the entry and face plate, although the Pyrocrete doors were still in great condition, we installed the latest doors  which give the owners a greater control of oven heat.

Job done

Job done

Job done, it did take about eight hours, but it came up like brand new, many  years of enjoyment to come.

*Please Note* this oven went through conditions NOT normally encountered, but will be standing long after me.
